Teachers do not hand students a textbook and say "great, teach yourself", we can't do that with the computer either (TED Talks, 2012). Technology will not replace the teacher; it will expand from the teacher. With technology, schools will provide students with knowledge beyond the human resource of the teacher. This is the essence of blended learning, the teacher and technology are working together to provide students with optimal learning.
Myself and a few of my university colleagues created an awareness video for kindness and paying it forward. We used a great source called Animoto! Animoto is a valuable tool for students to express ideas and knowledge with technology!
21st century education is making a shift from traditional education to technology based education. Technology is opening so many doors for students that were simply not possible before. Educators and students alike have access to technological advances that could benefit their learning and creativity greatly.
21st century students are encouraged to collaborate and innovate in a classroom that is inquiry based. Students are surrounded by technology in the society we live in. I-pads, computers, smartphones, etc are simply the norm for children and although it is debatable whether these devices are strictly beneficial, it is clear that these devices can aid children educationally. Students have access to learn in class, explore online, and expand their understanding and knowledge. This is known as "Connectivism" but we will discuss this idea later! |
